Hastelloy belongs to the group of highly corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloys. The material is characterized by excellent resistance in oxidizing and reducing media, even at elevated temperatures. Hastelloy is characterized by high resistance to crevice corrosion, pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in oxidizing and reducing media. The material shows good resistance to a wide range of corrosive media including strong oxidizing agents such as ferric chloride and cupric chloride, hot media eg sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric, chlorine, formic and acetic acids. Hastelloy also shows good resistance to moist chlorine gas, sodium chloride and chlorine dioxide solutions.
