Tungsten Copper is not a typical tungsten alloy but a composite material, since the composite consists of two chemically different materials. In conventional alloying processes, the two materials used must be soluble, which is not possible with tungsten-copper, since the melting point of tungsten is 3410°C and that of copper is around 1083°C. The copper would vaporize before the tungsten liquefies.

The production takes place in two steps. In the first step, the tungsten is pressed and sintered. In the next step, the open pores are closed by immersion in liquid copper. The different copper content can be adjusted by the grain size of the tungsten powder. Machining is carried out with carbide tools.
